The Managing Director

Welcome to our new look monthly client newsletter.

BGL is working to improve the way we deliver information to our clients. Part of this process has been the revamp of the client newsletter by making it easier for you to find the sections that interest you. We have also added a print button so you can print the entire newsletter should you wish to do so.

The last couple of months have been pretty crazy at BGL.

With the delivery of the new Nexus Database, software upgrades and client update seminars, BGL has taken a number of significant forward steps. And there is a lot more to come over the next few months.

BGL is well on track to deliver a number of new modules to clients in the second half of 2008. At the moment we are focusing on the Simple Fund Tax update due at the end of July 2008. At the same time, there will be a new CAS release with a number of new features and the re write of a number of existing functions to make them work better.

Over the next couple of weeks, BGL will release its 2008/2009 Product Roadmap. We did intend to release this during May but found we needed to make some significant changes to our development program so an early release was premature.

Let me take this opportunity to thank clients for their support over the past couple of months. It has been a difficult time with so much change. But the end result in our view has been worth the effort and the work we have all done will provide a myriad of exciting opportunities for clients in the not too distant future.

Subscription price increases

BGL Subscription Renewal Prices for all products will increase form 1 July 2008. The overall price increase is around 8% as BGL has not increased prices since 1 July 2006 so this price increase is a necessary catch up. BGL has decided so as  to avoid large prices increases every 2 years, in future we will increases prices in line with inflation each year. We feel this is fairer to clients and fairer to BGL.

BGL is committed to always provide you with exceptional value for money. This commitment is an underlying principal of BGL from which we will never falter.

CAS

CAS Version 11.0 (23/04/2008) is currently available on our web site. To download the latest update, please log in to the BGL Client Centre.

The CAS team have officially appointed our new Assistant Product Manager, Warren Renden.

Warren has been part of the team for several months, working towards a permanent position within the CAS team. Warren has added excellent value to the CAS team and all CAS clients.

Warren will help the CAS team to continue to provide outstanding software, and maintain the highest level of service to all clients.

The latest version of CASNet has been completed. The CAS team is currently completing the final stages of testing. The CAS update will be available in the first week of June.

Clients that require digital certificates to use for lodgement with ASIC, will no longer be able to acquire them from SecureNet. The CAS team is currently finalising changes to the code to accommodate for digital certificates acquired through Verisign. This will be released shortly.

Please note that digital certificates for use within CAS can only be issued by Verisign or SecureNet and no other provider.

The CAS Version 11 installation has been deployed successfully for many clients. The majority of issues clients experienced were directly related to the installation. This installation was extremely different to any prior installation of CAS. Clients handled this very well and the time spent putting together detailed manuals has certainly paid off.

We urge all clients to make sure that installation guides are read in their entirety before running any upgrades or installs. This will ensure a smooth transition for users each time any products change.

The new user interface has received excellent feedback from clients. The next release of CAS will have some additional changes to the interface that will once again give clients improved functionality.

Fixed Corporate Key

Corporate keys issued to companies on annual statements after 26 May 2008 will now be fixed. They won't automatically change each year. Until the new fixed key is issued, current corporate keys are still active.

• You will still see them printed on annual company statements each year for reference.

• You must still use the corporate key when lodging some paper forms.

• You can still use a corporate key to register for our online services.

You can still ask us to issue a new one at any time if you have concerns that someone has had unauthorised access to it—go to www.asic.gov.au/corporatekey.

Registered agents can still ask for a corporate key to be changed, the new key will be sent to the company's registered office.

If a company appoints or ceases a registered agent, a new corporate key will be issued to the company.

Simple Fund Tip

Simple Invest

Simple Invest Version 6.0 (28/05/2008) is currently available on our web site. To download the latest update, please log in to the BGL Client Centre.

Please review the full installation instructions available from the BGL Client Centre before running this update.

In this update we have added the new merger and demerger facilities to enable our clients to process those corporate actions in an accurate, fast and reliable way. They have been added to the Additional Functions available within the Transactions Search screen.

This new demerger process will make the time consuming and often complex task of processing corporate demergers much easier. The screen provides users the ability to automatically process demergers where a company has split into two entities and has chosen to apply CGT rollover relief.

The demergers screen provides users with the ability to input mergers where a company takes over another entity and has chosen to apply CGT rollover relief. Users need to ensure they have input all purchase details up until the date of the merger for the existing entity.
We have also improved the Register Selection screen to enable multiple registers functions such as updating and deleting registers. The update also contains an improvement to the disposal deletion process as well as all the current bug fixes.

Please refer to the latest features document available in the BGL Client Centre for all new features and bug fixes available in version 6.0 dated 27th of May 2008.
